In August 2011 I was contacted by a man named Tom via Richplanet.net who wanted to pass on details of a UFO sighting that his stepfather and stepfather’s friend had experienced in the mid 1990’s. This report covers what he has shared with me about the incident.
Sighting Details
The exact date of the incident is unknown, but it was overcast with a strong wind blowing and low fast moving clouds. It was mid-afternoon. Tom’s stepfather Brian and his friend Patrick were out on their regular weekly ramble and were checking out an old abandoned mine shaft. They heard a low whistling sound coming from above them. When they looked up they were amazed to see an object hovering directly overhead no higher than 500 feet. It was black and triangular in shape. It appeared to be about 30 feet across. There were no markings or lighting visible on the object.
The object was clearly under direct control as it was hovering completely still despite the fact there was a strong breeze. It did not appear to be affected by the weather conditions at all. The two men watched it for a short while. It then began to slowly and smoothly turn on the spot. As it did they noticed two small vertical protrusions on the upper rear of the object. It then began to travel away from their location at a slow speed to the North West. As it went it ascended until it disappeared into the clouds.
Sighting Analysis
This is a very interesting incident due to the fact that the object was clearly unaffected by the strong wind around it. This means that it was either flying against the air currents in order to maintain a completely stationary position, or was inside a field of some kind that meant it was not affected by the wind. The fact it was black, of reasonable size and triangular in shape suggests that it may well have been a Flying Triangle craft, one of the more commonly reported types of UFO. However the two short vertical tails at the top rear of the object seem to be unusual and I cannot think of any cases where these have been reported before.
The object appears to have approached on purpose to observe the men on the ground. If this were the case then this again designates that it was under intelligent control. There is the possibility that it was a secret military craft of some kind but I find this unlikely. Why would the military have been interested in approaching the men if this would result in them being seen? Also in order to maintain a stationary position in the sky in the strong wind it would be expected that some form of propulsion system such as engines or propellers would have been visible. It seems too large to have been a remote controlled model. Other explanations such as a large inflatable, kite or hand glider can be put out of the question due to the manoeuvres it performed.
The low whistling sound that the men heard could have come from the object itself, or perhaps it was the sound of the wind whistling around it. Usually Flying Triangles either emit a faint humming sound or are completely silent.
